ACCOMMODATION FOR THE TRAVELLING
Sir,—l would like to bring , under the notice of the responsible authorities, through your columns, tho present unsatisfactory state of affairs which exists in - Wellington in connection with accoriimodation for the travelling pub\ic, Any person coming to Wellington finds it extremely difficult to secure accommodation at' the comparatively cheapertariffed licensed hotels, and very olien has to go from one hotel to another before being able to get accommodation! and then probably only at a most expensive hotel or at an overcrowded private hotel. This sort of thing inflicts a great hardship upon the travelling public, and especially upon women, for whom, obviously, there should be proper and decent accommodation provided at a reasonable - cost. The hotelkeepers always state that their houses "are full," but whether they really are full or hot is a matter of very grave doubt Aro tho licensed hotelkeepers "playing the game" with regard to tho travelling public? A simple way of putting tilings on a proper and satisfactory footing would bo for. tho hotelkeeper, when his house is full, to put up a notice to that effcct, and also at tho same time, ring up tho responsible authorities aud inform fliem of the fact, so ; that they can send along an- official to verify it. Trusting that something of this kind will be done.~l am, etc., TRAVELLER.
