Tito Minister promised 'a reply not later than' Tuesday'(this day), but unfortunately it has not 'been possible for the Minister of Eaihvays, who is in the north, to be back in Wellington in time to discuss the mat-ter-with the other members of the GovA meeting of Cabinet was. held yesterday, and it was decided to hold the question; over until tho return of Mr. Herries ' from the north. The ActingPrime Minister is writing to the secio,tary of the Locomotive Engine-drivers and Cleaners' Association to this effect, giving the assurance also that the question' submitted by'the society will be decided certainly within a week., , Another ciuestion with the railway societies is raised by the exercise of the Ministerial 'veto'on the finding of the Eailway Appeal Board-ia the L'ongton case. This matter also is engaging. the attention of' the -'.'Government,, but further consideration of it has been postponed until of Mr. Herries to Wellington. A Press Association tolegram from Auckland states that the' Auckland branch of the Engineers, Firemen, and Cleaners' s Association" hold a meeting at which it was unanimously resolved to adhere to'the decision' respecting the proposals made by the Minister o'niailways.
