"LOW KUN"
WELLINGTON SEASON ABAN- •< DONED. ■
A. large audience gathered in the Grand Opera Houso on Saturday night to meet "Low Kun," described nianagerially as "tho world's greatest illusionist." Tho performance was not a success, and tho audience showed its feelings in a most numistaknble manner. Mr. "Kun' was not without ability, but he did not attain show standard. His illusions appeared to depend upon mechanical, aids that wore not always forthcoming at the right time. He was really entertaining for five minutes, when ho gave his demonstration of "defying gravity. _ Ho got his allegedly hypnotised _ assistant raised into the air, and then failed to Ret i him down again. Even direct pressure ; would not move tho invisible obstruc- ; lion for some minutes , . Finally the as- . sistant came down -very suddenly, and tho encounter with the stage boards seemed to break the hypnotic spell. Tho audience was not patient with Mr. "Run. , It threw things at him and occasionally | counted him out. A little support was given by the Madisons, a pair ofsong-and-dance artists, and Miss Kenu D'Hood, a mer.zo-soprano of slight attainments, but the management showed discretion in ringing down the curtain on an uncompleted programme at a.bout 9.30 p.m. The season originally announced was for one | week, but a notice is published Hiis | morning stating that "owing to a number of intruders early in the evening damaging the illusions , . the remainder of the 6eason has been abandoned."
