RETURNING SOLDIERS
CARPENTARIA'S DRAFT AT LYTTELTON. By TelccraDli—Prooa Association. Christcliurch, May 18. Tho Carpentaria, with 577 troops on board, arrived at Lytlclton Harbour at 8.15 last night, and berthed early this morning a clean ship. There was practically no sickness throughout Uio voyage. The trip was uneventful. There were no soldiers wives on board, and tho only mail brought was one bag from Colon for Wellington. The Carpentaria s southern dralt, totalling about two hundred, will go south by to-morrow's express, and the North Islanders by to-morrow's ferry stoanier. DEVON DELAYED. Christchurcli) May 17. Tho Devon will not arrive to-morrow, as previously reported. Tho local agents stated this morning that the vessel will Lot leave Sydney until May 23.
