j . FORECAST AND SUMMARY AT 4 P.M. YESTERDAY. Present indications are for easterly galea northward of Kawhia and 7iast Cape, and moderate to strong and increasing south-east winds elsewhere. Expect cald anil changeable conditions generally, with rain probable northward, of Gisbornc and Kawhia. The barometer has a, falling 'tendency in the north, . and a rising tendency in" the south. Tho barometer has fallen further in the north, but is still above normal over the dominion. High easterly winds have ruled in the far north, and raodetate to strong westerlies liave changed to southerlies elsewhere. A Keuter telegram from Delhi announces the death, after u short illness of Colonel '.Rowland Hill Martin, C.8.! C.M.G., who led the charge df (lie 21st Lancers at Khartum. Colonel Martin, who was born in 1818, was. educated at Cheltenham and Sandhurst. He entered the 21st Hussars in 18U!), and became .lieutenant-colonel of the ,21st Lancers in '■1592, retiring in 1903. He served with tho Be'chuanaland Expedition, 188-1-5. and for his services in tho Nile Expedition ho was made a C'.B. In the South African campaign ho served oil tho Staff, and was created C.M.GI.
