The Jlouto arrived in Pnllisor Bay on Wednesday morning, and the northerly breeze prevailing increased till, 011 Thursday it was a- moderate gale, which carried the vessel south to off the Kaikouras. TIIO Houto was hove to for fifteen hours— from Wednesday midnight to Thursday afternoon. She lost her lower top-sail and fore and aft foresail. Until this is done it is' probable that the Queen Shipping Company, Ltd., will endeavour to get a steamer to make periodical calls at Foxton. The Blenheim \vas dispatched for Foxton by Messrs. Levin and Go. last night. IMPHOVING FOXTON HAIiBOUE. It is understood that the Foxton Harbour Board intend" purchasing a dredge shortly for the improvement of the Manawatu Hiver and bar. It is the ambition of tho board to greatly advance the utility of the port by increasing the depth of tlie rive,-! and t!ie bar to 14 feet. Tho big district behind the port is in need of a better inlet, and th'e increasing shallowness of the bar and.' river has brought about the diversion oi fairly regular traders from Foxton!'
