DUNEDIN HOSPITAL

LACK OF ACCOMMODATION FOR INFECTIOUS CASES. 3y TeleßrapU—Press Association. Dunedin, May 15. An outbreak of diphtheria has occurred in tho Ulendining Home Orphanage, controlled'' by the Presbyterian Church. There are about 80 children in the home, and five are suffering ironi diphtheria. One patient died two days ago. A deputation to tho Charitable Aid Board today urged that immediate action should bis taken. Dr. Falconer, medical superintendent ot the hospital, reported that practically the whole reserve isolation of the Dunediu Hospital was being used for cases which siiuiild be accommodated in the'.outside imectious diseases hospital, these including 20 cases of scarlet fever .in,'the fever hospital, aud 20 cases of diphtheria in the Old Nurses' Home. He suggested that the Health Department should be requested to act at once. The Rev. Mr. Cameron, representing the managers, said that no isolation in the Glendining Home would be satisfactory unless the 75 healthy children were taken away. He threatened-to take the diphtheria patients to the hospital and leave them on the board's hands if any delay occurred. ■ Subsequently Dr. Falconer inspected tho two buildings, but as they were unsatisfactory for isolation purposes, Mr. Cameron took the patients to the hospital left them there.
