THE IMPERIAL GUARDS
OPINIONS ON THE PIiOPOSAL. London, May 11. It is understood that the War-Office and the Colonial Office are in favour of the forinatiou of the Imperial Guards. The War Cabinet will consider the proposal after tho Dominion Premiers have been consulted. Australian and N&w Zealand military opinions are generally adverse to th'n proposal for the formation of Imperial Guards, objecting to the iden of men who fought at Gallipoli, Pozieres, and Paschendaele becoming mere ornamental solfliers.- Jfc is considered that tho Dominions' part in the Imperial battles should be commemorated in a far more practical manner. Senator Pearce., Sir John Monash, and other leading Australians decline to make a. statement..'considering that the mattor is one of policy, on which the Government must decide, if Ihe whemo is officially adopted.—Aus.-N.Z.
