ARTHUR'S PASS TUNNEL
_ 6 MEASURES FOR ACCELERATING TilE WOKK. By Telceraph-Prese Aseociation. ; Hokitika/ May 15. Representatives from Canterbury and Westland are conferring at Ohm to-day regarding means and. measures to accelerate the Arthur's Pass tunnel works.. An inspection of the through route is being made. The Canterbury visitors will stop over till Saturday, when they will return with the Minister of Mines, who will 'be interviewed on the works. Christchurch, May 15. Prom present indications the iron trail Unking tho West [and East Coasts will not bo in running order for possibly another four years, instead of the two years promised by the Minister of Public Works. That at least is the opinion of the Christchurch delegates who officially inspected the Arthur's Pass tunnel today. One mile eeventeen chains of the tunnel require to be completed, but this is the worst portion. One mile seven chains have.been; completed on the Canterbury side, and three miles one chain on the West Coast-side.
