Now that amalgamation with Wellington City had been brnujjht about, it was hoped and anticipated 1 hut the Onslow portion of' Greater Wellington would make rapid progress. The speaker emphasised the need for essential services,; and particularly mentioned better access, water, and drainage, and the reed for reserves within the district, and said (hat Onslow could hardly bo surpassed in respect to suitablo locutions and exceptional scenic sights, and playing-grounds could br, put down, at reasonable cost. Now was the time to get areas set aside for reserves, before the district becamp 100 thickly nonulatod. Air. P, Frn.sor-Tlodgson, the convener of the meeting, said that a certain amount of interest" had been created in Onslow and greater development was' likely to came about ii. respect tt. suburban areas generally. He thought that the, time was ripe for the formation of a Progressive Association. Ho pointed to tho good work done by similar organisations elsewhere, and he was in favour of a Progressive Association in respect to beautifying the district. A 'gieat deal could be dune by planting trees and' suitable shrubs in .favourable.localities. Mr. W. Anplelon stressed the need for an association to "boost" Onslow. He considered that such a body should reach the three wanls-Khnndallah, Ngnio, and Kaiwarra—and should not. be confined tn Khandallah. He also pointed out. that it should not be a .grievance association, and that the object was not in ary My antagonistic to the city authorities, but the desire was to work in wUh them.. Air. A'. Seed also spoke in favour of the association. He thought that the lindy should be formed not only to bring 'under notice the needs of the district, but » to actively push the advantages of Onslow as a residential aree.. Wellington'desired to get rid of i]ie slum areas, and Onslow was the place to helo this movement;. Mr. V.. Piiimner anil Air. rlamillont also spoke. On the motion of Air. Hnm;lion it was decided to form a. committee, consisting of Alessrs. G, Smith, IV J. Hodgson, W. Apploton. and the mover, to •bring down recommendations to a meeting on Thursday of next week. In the meantime if was decided that the district should bo canvassed to interest a greater number of residents. INFLUENZA AND CLEArKNTS' TONIC.
