o Speaking at the Boys' Institute on Tuesday night, the Minister of-Education (the non. J. A. Hanan) referred to the exhibition of pictures which ho did not consider lit to be shown in the presence, of -children. Mr. Hanan said that no had brought the matter under the notice of. the Minister of Internal Affairs, and that he hoped that the Hon! Mr. ltusboll would support him in his endeavour to liavo reform mado in tho matter. Mr. Russell had something to say on this subject yesterday. "The Minister of Education has been asked to. provide ma with tho names of pictures to which reference is mado, in order that further inquiry, may be made into tho matter," said Mr. Russell. "As Minister in charge of censorship of films I have never contemplated that it was possible to reduco the standard of films shown.to the level of school children, any more than it would bo possible to reduco the level of current newspapers or general literature to tho 6amo standard. If there are pictures being 6hown which are not quito suitable for children of tender years to sco the responsibility is on the' parents to restrain the children from, going to see. them. It is not possible to reduco. tho standard of exhibition to what may be regarded as a school-children's standard. However, if there are any wellgrounded complaints regarding particular pictures they will be fully inquired intoi as they have always been, when, thoy have been brought under my notice in the past."
