PROPOSED IMPERIAL GUARD
SIR THOMAS MACKENZIE'S VIEWS. (Rec. May 14, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 13. Discussions are proceeding in official circles- regarding the desirability of establishing an Imperial Guard, inquiries among Canadian and Australian soldiers indicate that many are willing to join provided the period of service is short. It is generally agreed that the schemo will present difficulties in organisation. Sir Thomas' Mackenzie (Now Zealand High Commissioner), interviewed, agreed as to the good effect the formation of such a unit would hare from the Imperial point of view, but- it might not bo approved by New Zealand, which discouraged the military spirit except for defensive purposes, and possibly would not welcome a proposal to send her sons twelve thousand miles for a prolonged period of service.—Aus.-N.Z.
