WINNING TWO-YEAR-OLDS

THE YEAR'S FIGURES. [By Waiiuki.] ■ With the conclusion of the Manawatu meeting at Awapuni last week, the two-year-old racing season practically camo to an end. The racing public has had a big task this season in sorting- out the- best youngster of the year. Three colts—Surveyor, War Piano, and Affectation—each havo a large following of supporters for that position, but iirsportilig circles it is generally acknowledged that Affectation is the best of the trio. In point of stake earnings Surveyor, has won pearly twice as' much as his two nearest'competitors. Surveyor started eleven times during the season,, nnd was only once out of a place, that being in his -first race—at Trentham, in the Weljeslev Stakes. War Piano won his first race (at Masterton),, but he raced with bad luck till last' week, when, through the accident (o Gloaming, and being in receipt of a stone from Affectation, he won the North . Island Challenge Stakes, which he followed up,with his Sires' Produce Stakes win. When Affectation struck form at Awapuni at Christmas time he showed his quality. Amongst events he won wore the Hawke's Bay Stakes and Great Northern Champagne Stakes. 11l the former event he gave an exhibition of his pace, when, after being left at the post, he won comfortably at the finish. Sevoral sires had stock racing for the first time this season. Nassau (William tho Third—Stolon Love) at his first seaeon at stud got, the biggest stake-earner for the season in Surveyor. There would seam to 1m a brilliant future before this young sire. Sanqiilrir (Santry—Valve) was represented for the first t'imo, and his daughter, Miss Mimic (out of Counterfeit) won 945 sovs. Bindle, one of tho first of the orogeny of Solforino (Solimnn—Little lied Spinner) accounted for 755 sovs. Two of the slock of Runny Lako (Sundridge—Pear] of the Loch) in Murihiku and Sun Dance, won 405 sovs. and 400 sovs. respectively. Lucullus was also represented for the first lime, his best stake winner being Mistress Biddy, 380 sovs. Of the oilier new sires Winkip (William the Third —Conjure) was the most: successful, his son Mistinn appropriating 275 sovs. It will be noticed in the following (able of the stake earnings of the youngsters that tho Tronthani-trained two-year-olds were not very successful, the two members of J.
