LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

MAYORAL INSTALLATION. The formal installation of the Mayor of Lower Hu'tt (Mr. 13. P. Bishworth) took place last evening. Tho Mayorelect, in a short speech, expressed his thanks at having been elected unopposed, and expressed the hopo that the present cordial relations existing between Mayor and councillors would continue. The first meeting of the newly-elected borough council was held after the installation ceremony. Present:—The Mayor,,, Councillors W. Knight, W. Meldrtim, E. J. Guinness, J. Mitchell. A. Macaskill, W. Cotton, W. B. Hardy, A. J. West, and A. J. Hobbs. The secretary of the Wellington Rugby Football Union wrote applying for permission to levy n charge- of sixpence for admission to football matches at the recreation ground.—Referred back' to Rugby Union for further information. ■ Tho chairman of the Wellington City Council Milk Committee' wrote ' stating that tho council had no intention of depriving tho borough of its milk supply, but in the event of a. shortage occurring the supply should be shared proportionately with the city. The. matter was left in tho hands of the Mayor. The District Traffic Manager of Railways wrote advising that the concrete lied for the unloading of manure at tho Hutt Railway Station was sufficient for requirements. A letter was received from tho Collingwood County Council urging that the Government should acquire the Puponga coal mino from the Seaforth Colliery Co., Ltd./A letter from tho Wellington Central Chamber of Commerco suggested that a conference of representatives of ' local bodies and chambers of commerce of the Wellington Province be held about the end of June, and asked the council to appoint representatives. Councillors Cotton and Mitchell wore appointed delegates. Tho librarian \ (Miss Troseder) wrote tendering her resignation, which was accented. , Several applications for gas connections were declined, it being impossible at present to obtain more gas. ' The reports of the engineer and tho librarian were adopted. The appointment of committees for the ensuing term resulted as follows:— No. 1 Committee (Water, Sewage Works, By-laws): Councillors Guinness, Cotton, Macaskill, Mitchell, and West. No. 2 Committee (Gas,-' Library, Reserves, Fire Brigade): Councillors Hobbs, Hardy, Knight, and'Meldrum. Hutt Park Committee: The Mayor, Councillors Hardy and Hobbs. Finance Committee: The Mayor and Councillor Mitchell. Accounts Committee: Councillors Guinness, West, and Knight. Technical School Committee: Councillore Hobbs and West.
