MAGISTRATE'S COURT
POLICE BUSINESS. Mr. I''. V. Frazcr, S.M., presided over yesterday's sitting of tho Magistrate's Court. A seaman belonging to the liner Raranga, named J. Henry, pleaded guilty to charges of drunkenness and of assaulting Arthur William Seaward, third officer of the Teasel. It appeared from the evidence that Henry had somo gnidgo against the officer, and whilst dru.nk on Saturday afternoon assaulted him. His Worship convicted and discharged the accused on the charge of drunkenness and imposed a fine of £'1 and costs .£1 Bs. on tho major charge. A fine of .£5, in default one month's imprisonment, was imposed on James Brown for using obscene language, and on charges'of drunkenness and a breach of his prohibition order he was convicted and discharged. John Hyde and George Perrvn were convicted and fined 10s. and ss. respectively for drunkenness. Six .first-of-fenders for like offences were fined 10s. each, a seventh was fined XI, and another was fined s*. MAINTENANCE CASES. Charles Philip Badger, whoso arrears in respect of a maintenance order for the support of his wife amounted to M 10s., was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, warrant to be suspended for fourteen days. Francisco JVeitas was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for failing to comply with a maintenance order in respect of two children, the arrears of Avhich amounted to *£3G Bs. Execution of the warrant was suspended for 21 days. •
