Messrs. C. Reid and H. A. Bunny will represent (ho Cartorton Branch of the Farmers' Union at the provincial conference, to Jμ held in -Wellington, at the end of the month. At the annual meeting of the parishioners of St. Mark's Church, (lie following officers were elected for (he ensuing year:—Vicar's warden, Mr. P. Minn; people's warden, Mr. F. Court; vertry, Messrs. Sorenscn, H. Knutson, .T. Crowe, W. A. Kitchen, W. Thomas, H. Deller, G. Leach; auditor, Mr. C. H. Corniack. The, meeting paid a tribute to the memory of the late Archdeacon Fancourl and Mr. IT. K. Bunny, Tho balance-sheet showed that the eeneral offertories for the year were £[74: 19s. Ltd., and special offertories X 22 10s. 7<l. The parish account showed a credit of .£G Os. 4d. The Municipal Silver Band held a very enjoyable social and dance at Clnreville on Thursday evening, when a welcomehome to the district was accorded Lieutenant N. Rei<l, who recently returned from active service. Tho Carterton municipal gasworks,
which a few day 6 ago was short of coal, line now 52 tone at the works or in immediate view. With care, it is expected that this supply will last a month, and by the end of this period it is confidently expected that further puppliei will have come to hand. A quantity of etock donated by farmers of the district towards tho Memorial Pavilion Fund of the AVairarapa and East Coast V. and A. Society, was sold at auction at the Ortcrton stock sale on Friday. Mr. AY. Fisher will represent the Carlerton Borough Council at the forthcoming Town-Planning Conference, to he held in AVellington.
The- newly-elected Mayor, Mr. AV. Howard Boothi was installed in office on AVednesday evening, and the new council-'' low,' willi the exception of Councillor Preddy, iwho is absent in the South Island, signed tho usual declaration, und took their places at the council table. Committees were set up as under:— Works, tho Mayor, and. Councillors W. Fisher, J. C. Harp, and B. Eagle, jun.i Gas and Domain, Councillors T. H. Hughes. L. H. Smart, W. C. Slater, and B M'Keuzie; Finance, the Mayor, and councillors Smart, J. Proddy,"and IL M. B Trapp; Carter's Home, the Mayor, and Councillors Fisher, Harp, and Lngle: Baths, Councillors M'Kenzie, lrapp, and Slater; Library, Councillors Hughes and Freddy; Waterworks, Councillors fcagle, Fisher and M'Kenzie. The ordinary meeting was fixed for the last Tuesday in each month. It was decided to hoid a special meeting, when a round-table conference would be hold to decide upon a nfogramme of work. The Carterton Borough Conncil has set up a committee to confer with a commit, tee of the AVairarapa South County Council for the purpose of arranging a programme for peace celebrations. Spurious half-crowns have made thert appearance in Carterton.
