Mrs. Sydney Allen (New \Plymoulli) has been spending a few doys iu-Wol- . lington. Ono of the brightest and cheeriest of dances for young people was that which was given by Sirs. The Returned Soldiers' Club was a busy place on Satnrdriy, especially between the hours of seven and nine in the morning, when the soldiers who returned to New Zealand by tho Northumberland were disembarked ' preparatory to leaving for, their homes in different parls of the Dominion. Refreshments were served by the ladies in chargo of tho arrangements during tho whole of tho day not only to the soldiers themsholvea, but to their iiext-of-kin as well, and music provided by Mrs. Mirams'e concert party was a peasant addition to the proceedings. Among the visitors to the-club that day was Sir James Allen, Minister of Defence.

Sister G. 11. Wetherell, who is returning to New Zealand by the Arawa, was trained at tho Cliristchurch Hospital, and/was one of tho first nurses to go on nctivd service, leaving New Zealand in 1915. She was one of the survivors of the ill-fated Marquette, and has-since served in soveral hospitals in England. She was_ decorated • with tho Bed Cross by the King, and has recently been specialising at one of tho English hospitals.

Mrs. Charles Hattray, who went to Auckland to meet her son, who was returning from the front, has returned to Dunedin.

Miss Phyllis Boylo has returned to Christchurch after having spent, the past few years in England doing war work.

A'most enjoyable afternoon was spent on .Thursday last, when Mrs. Dinnie, president of the Ladies' Croquet Club Ivelburn, entertained Hie members and triends at her residence, Kelburn The rooms- were .prettily decorated with 'the eliio gold.
