BRITISH CASPIAN FLEET
■ VESSELS TAKEN J-ROM THE BOL- ■ / SHJ3VISTS. ■ Some speculation was , caused by Mr.. Churchill's announcement in introducing the- Army - Estimates -recently that "the Admiralty has a ileet of frmed vessels on the Caspian which gives «5 the command of that extensive inland eea." The Bolshevist war bulletins havo tince admitted the loss of h've armed vessels on the Caspian sea. The personnel for the vessels commanded by the British reached the Caspian from Mesopotamia via Persia. The stenmers are manned by Hussions, but the commander and the second in command of each boat are British, aa also are the gun crews. Bach ship is supplied with an interpreter. The vessels are small, and some of th«m carry one gun only of 4in. calibro. ■ .•;The original Hussion flotilla comprising two gunboats, two dispatch vessels, and three , steamers were taken over by the Britiqh only a few days ago. The Bolshoyißts haver still a few armed vessels at Astrakhan, where they «re at present ice-bound.
