ALLEGED THEFT OF CATTLE
JURY PAILS TO AGREE. By Telegraph-Press Association. Timaru/Mnv 7. . The Supremo Court was occupied nil day over a charge against an elderly couplo named Tarrant, dairy furmers, oi* Temuka, of stealing several head of cattlo between March and July of last year. Tho owner lost a number of cattlo by straying, and failed to recover ■ a few of them. In November he recognised three of them on tho farm of another, person, who had bought them from tho ■accused. Tho female accused was tho owner of tho farm, and did tho business. Both accused denied the diargc, and gavo evidence regarding tho purchase of tlio three beasts. This evidence was not in afiy way corroborated, while the claimant had several witnesses for identification of tho cattle. The female accused had signed an agreement to pay for these and oilier cattlo to save trouble, but she declared that it was done against her bctler judgment, and she had not paid tho money. Tho jury disagreed. A second charge of the samo nature, against the Tarrants will bo taken to. morrow.
