The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald left nt midday yesterday for the West Coast. The Hon. T. M. Wilford left last evening for the South Island. He intends to visit Dunedin. Captain Bean, the official war correspondent with the Australian Forces abroad, las returned—Press Association. Tho Bishop of Nelson, who has just returned from the front, and who attended the meeting of General Synod yesterday, according to a Press Association message, will leave Napier this morning for his home. The Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington (Mr. and Mrs. ,T. P. Luke) returned from Auckland yesterday. Major Kenneth MaeCormick, D.S;O., of Auckland, has taken his discharge from the New Zealand Medical Corps in London, where ho proposes to remain for some time, having been appointed resident medical officer at the Bolingbroke Hospital, Wandsworth Common. He whs recently elected a fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health. Mr. E. A. Goodger, who was well known in Wellington some years ago, has been elected Mayor of Waipukurau. Mr. J. Emeny, of Naughton Terrace, Kilbirnie, has received advice that his son. Private H. L. Emeny, will be returning by the Northumberland. Private Emeny, who is well-known in local hockev and cricket circles, enlisted for and went away with the Seventeenth Rein-' forcement's. He was severely wounded at Messines,- and after spending eight months in hospital in England, joined up with the Machine-Gnn Corps, and was in practically every engagement that the New Zealanders took part in, and then jcinert the British advance party in the inarch along . the Rhine front and through Germany, Mr. H. B. Sorensen has been elected chairman of the Lyttelton Harbour Board. Mr. C. de R, Andrews, of the Valuation Department, Dunedin, has been elected a member of the Public Service Appeal Board. All the service members of the Appeal Board in the past and at present have originally come from Otago, viz., Messrs. P. J. Mowat, A. Marryatt, R. P. Ward, and C. de R. Andrews.

MacKenzie, returned from active service as chaplain, has been appointed bv the Returned Chaplains' Committee of tho Presbyterian Church as chaplnin to the returned soldiers. * Mr. W. S. La Trobe, Director of Technical Education, is visiting the schools in the Taranaki district which are under his' jurisdiction. He was present at the opening of the / new Technical School at Hawcra, and this week will visit the Stratford and.Now Plymouth schools. Mr. William Hurst Martin, an old identity of Auckland, died on Saturday at his residence, Martinborough, Mount Albert, where he had resided for over half a century. Accompanied by his wife, Mr. Martin arrived in Auckland by tho sailing ship Ida Zeiglor, in 18G3. Soon afterwards he went with the force 3 to Rangiriri, where he took part in the operations against the Maoris. On tho cessation of hostilities he engaged in farming, stockbrceding, and stock • dealing. He also took part in tho rush to tho Thames goldfields when the great "boom"' took place. . . <
Major J. G. Coai.es, M.l'. for Kaipara, who has been ou active service as a member of the New Zealand 'Expeditionary Force since October, 1916, returned to Auckland by the transport llcniuera. Kajor Coatfe left New Zealand as a captain, and received his majority _ in France while serving- with his division. He was also awaided the Military Cross and a bar for services in the field,
The death is announced ' from Dunedin of Mrs. Fulton, relict of the Hon. .Tames Fulton, M.L.C. The late Mrs. Fulton, -who was aged ninety, was a daughter of the late Mr. W: H. Valpy, a retired Indian Judge, who came out in' the same ship, the Ajax, with the late. Mr. Fulton.
Lieutenant Esmond Atkinson, R.N.V.8., and Lieutenant Hal. M. W.. Atkinson, R.N.Y.R., sons of Mr. Tudor Atkinson, of Wellington, are returning by the Arawa, due at Lyttelton on May''l2. Both officers enlisted eome three 'years affo. When hostilities ended the former was serving on H.M.S. light cruiser Constanco; the latter was commanding a motor launch of the Motor Patrol, with headquarters at Harwich." Mrs. .Esmond Atkinson and son are also returning by the Arawa. .
