It would bo felt moro severely but for the fact that many of the companies are being compelled by the lack of storage space to keep killings down to a minimum. Tho shortage of slaughtermen is duo to several causes. Many men havo left New Zealand during the' war, while at the same time newworks havo .been opened. Australian slaughtermen have not come across to iVew 'Zealand in the usual numbers this year. The late season in the North Island, moreover, has delayed tho release of men who, in the normal course of events, would havo been available for work in the South Island.
