Tho polioy of the Agricultural Depart-ment-in regard to black spot in fruit ' \whs freely criticised at- a meeting,; of : Auckland fruitgrowers; .to-day. It was stated that. no. consideration ,hnd been . shown „to,::growers because of. abnormal circumstances, such as; the outbreak of epidemio during the spraying season and the very .'high; advance ,in .the • cost .of materials. ■; The. opinion - was expressod . that it -was .practically impossible to eliminate the pest. When ..the weather -sind other circumstances were favourable '~'■ it could be got under, but in the followj, ins season, when the circumstances were * unfavourable, the fruit was' in a worse "state than ever. The opinion was also expressed that fruit should not bo con- ", demned when the proportion of spotted fruit was below a reasonable standard.
