ST. MARK'S CHURCH
' MEETING:-OF PARISHIONERS. • The annual meeting of parishioners of St..Mark's was held last evening- in the church schoolroom. The acting-vicar (tho.Eev. A. T. B. Page) was in the chair. Yesterday being the ninth anniversary of the accession of Iving_ George V, the proceedings opened with' the singing of the National Anthem. The acting-vicar reviewed the work of the church during the year. lie stated that their vicar, the Rev. C. F. Askew, and Mrs. Askew arrived in England on last Monday week, and it might be presumed that Mr. Askew would very soon get to work on his great task in connection with the proposed, cathedral. Ha referred to the loss of Sister Constaiice, and suggested that some lady should step into the breach and take up the work Sister Constance laid down. He found in his experience of pastoral visiting that there was a great amount of work a visiting lady might do, and ho sincerely hoped that someone would volunteer for the work. He referred to the church day school, which was making rapid progress and would soon have tile limit of pupils, , which was 200, and they would then have to consider the matter of providing further accommodation. Ho pointed out that the narish had promised ,£7500 towards the cathedral fund, and they hod in hand and promised ,£3850, of which c£1415 had been subscribed. Mr. Page then referred to the young people who were living lonely and to some extent unprotected lives in the ciiy. Theru were some hostels established, but ho thought it would be a glorious tiling if tho parish could provide a hostel where church boys and church girls could find a homo.
