At the General Anglican Synod to-day tho Laymen's Committee recommended a considerable increase in clerical stipends, which arc now utterly inadequate. Synod expressed of the noble response of churchmen to the call of Empire, and expressed, sympathy with the* bereaved parents and wives, the sicli and disabled, also its hope for prompt liberal Government treatment of the disabled Appreciation of the worjt of the ChurcK Army was «Isg expressed.' s ' Spcakprs condemned tlio Government treatment of consumptives, who were being discharged unctireii. Synod recommended the promoting of church schools in the centres.
