The facts of tho case as outlined by Sergeant Bird were that a party of motorists from Wellington slopped at the Grand National Hotel for a fow minules shortly before 6 o'clock tho' previous uvciiiiig, and a.? they were re-entering the car tho accused was alleged to have snatdied tho handbag from" the lady's wrist and mado off up the right-of-way at the back of tho hotel. By 7 o'clockConstable Lumber had arrested (lie accused. Tho hag was found in tho man's possession, 'but so for tho money had not been recovered.
Accused was remanded- for eight days, bail being fixed at ono surely for XIOO and himself .£SO. '
