PARTICIPANTS TN NAVAL OPERATIONS
ARRIVE BY. THE MAKURA, By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, May 6. The oteamer Makura, which arrived from Vancouver to-day, brought back 24 lieutenants, all of the Royal Navy o( Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. ' The officers were all participants in the naval operations about the North Sea, taking part in subniarino chasing and general patroj work, while .most of them- had a hand in the bombardments of the Belgian coast. Lieutenant-Commander Lionel Robinson, R.N., is on his way to Melbourne to take :.up a naval appointment there. When in charge of an armoured train'in the North of Fiance, early in tho war, this officer did such damage to the Germans that the Kaiser offered =£1000 for his head. He was'also with one of the naval brigades in Antwerp, took part in the Heligoland fight and the storming of Zeebrugge, and latterly was engaged in. the shelling of the Belgian coast. - Besides possessing' the-Distill- 1 ' glf ishe'd Service" Cross, he received a decoration from Iho Belgian King.' Great tales are told of the deeds of 38 chief petty officers, who are part of the force of motor-boat patrolmen to come back. They are all in Auckland now, and every -one of them has seen servicn bombing tho Belgian coast, working against mines, and in mystery ship 9 chasing submarines. ,
