Corporal H. (kise, son of Mr. G. H. Guise, Wallace Street has been awarded the Military Medal for gallantry in the field. Corporal .Guise.was born in Wellington and educated at Mount Cook School, and was a prominent member of tho D Battery. He loft New Zealand with the Eighth Reinforcements in tic Mounted ltiiles. Arriving m Egypt he was transferred to tho transport column and left Egypt for Franco in 1916, serving in the ammunition column in tho Sommo battle, lie was then transferred to tho 13th Battery, and was present at all the battles in which the New Zealand Division took part. He participated in tho march to Cologne, and is returning by the Northumberland. Beloro leaving Now Zealand lie was employed in the firm of Abbott, Oram and Company. The officer commanding the troops on tho PaplirQa, which is to arrive at Wellington aboiit May 13, is Major W. J). Tracy, M.C., who is well known in Cliristelmrch. Major Tracy graduated Master of Arts at Canterbury College in 1911. At the meeting ot the Petone Borough Council-a resolution was passed expressing appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the town by the two councillors, who were not seeking re-election-Councillors M'Dougal and M'Kenzie. . Among the names .of those recently awarded the M.C. is Lieutenant J. Lawson Brown, of Timaru, who left with the Sixth Reinforcements. He has seen active service in Egypt, Prance, and Belgium, and was in Prance when the armistice was signed. He took part in the march into Germany.
