MR. TAFT AND THE BRITISH NAVY
Mr.'Tnft, addressing the Empire Club at Toronto, paid the following tribute to the British Navy:— "Great Britain's supremacy of the seas —if you like the. expression—in times of peace always meant equality for nil nations, and in times of war Great Britain must maintain her fleet to resist* unjust aggression. If sho did not slio would starve in a week. . . . The ouostion of disarmament must depend on tho success of the League of Nations and on the demonstration that it can furnish that insurance which the nations now secure by navies and. armies for self-protec-tion."
A Press Association message from Sydney states that Hymestra, Scornful,' and Horace have been scratched for all engagements at I'andwick. Wishful has lieen scratched from the First Hurdles. A meeting of Mrs. Barber's Ladies' Committee, in connection with the Mnyoral contest, was held yesterday afternoon, when final arrangements were made for polling day.
