Another reason why we must maintain a largo force in tho present year_is that we are going to take measures which will make it physically impossible- for Germany to begin a war of revenge, at any rate during our lifetime. We nro going to mako Germany pay what is rightful and possible in reparation of the damncp she has done. It is absolutely untrue to say that wo aro keeping large forces to fight in Russia. If Russia, is to bo saved she- must bo saved by Russians. Tho new States in tho East of Europo particularly Poland, must bo safeguarded. The future of Europe and tho wholo effectiveness of the League of Nations depend on a trustworthy Allied forco close to Germany.
