QUARANTINE REGULATIONS
SHIPS FOR AUSTRALIA

The Director of Quarauliuo in llelbonrno lias cabled to the New Zealand Government that vessels from New Zealand nro now granted pratique in Australia on production of a certificate from the principal health authority at the last port of departure stating that all persons have been examined, including the erew, and their temperatures taken, and that no influenza or Mispicious ■ illness was on hoard at the time of departure. The granting of pratique is also subject to quarantine inspection, and the release of the passengers and crew is subject to daily surveillance for three days. The Hon. G. W. Russell, who made these facts public., stated Hint in the ordinary course of events no inspection of vessels leaving New Zealand took place regarding the health of thoso on board, but in view of the present position the Chief Health Officer had arranged that the various iealth officers at the principal ports oi departure for overseas vessels, and the Port Health Officers also, should make an inspection of the pasfieußcrs '.and crew of e,icn vessel. This was not exactly a new departure, as from time to time, different countries, including. New Zealand, have asked for certificates of the, kind, and the Dominion has complied as' far as possible. The shipping companies, J[r. Russell added, preferred to pay any cost entailed by the inspection, as it facilitated the entry of their vessels at the other end.
