A. correspondent of the London "Times" writes:—Tlia discovery mado on the Kingswood estate, Buckfastleigh, formerly the property of Lord Macclesfield, of pitchblende, the oro of radium, is important both commercially and scientifically. After over a year's patient mining the present landowner, Mr. F. Sykes, '"prospecting" on his own account. has discovered a very fine lode. Dr. Henry Terry, of University College, London, has analysed a representative sample of the pitchblende, which shows a uranium oxido content of over 26 ■ per cent.—over 13 times as rich us the American ore of riwliuin now Ijeing imported into England. Preparations are beintr made for working the lode on a large scale.
