Pryor, provided cur.i to convey the nieii to their homes or steamers., A band was in attendance, and ladies pave the returned men cigarettes. The Mavor of Wellington (Mr. J. I'. Lul;e, M.P.) weli>>nied the men informally on . the Etalion. The draft included about a dozen men who had brought wives with (hem from Great Britain. There were several babies included in tlio parly. A carriage, had been reserved on the train for the married couples, and Ihe wives t-laled that they had made their first journey in New Zealand in -comlorla'ble ■ fashion. They had been extended a welcome by local people at various wayside station?,; and tlio babies Inid been provided with all Iho comforts they needed. The Canterbury and Otago men went south'by the ferry boat last night.
