W. D. S. Mac Donald) itegardiug.the 'Several matters on the agenda paper. • ■'These; , matters included the measures to" be 'taken regarding the cattle tick in New" Zealand; shipping,-forming instruction,'arid" marking and branding schemes. ■Qne'6f the"most interesting of the matters to'be discussed by the board will ; l)e-that of ■■the best' means of dealing With-tho' Josiali Howard Bequest, left to the Government by a settler in the likokino district, Hawke's Bay, for agricultural education. The property consists of 7600 acres of land, 14.000 sheep, 400 cattle, and a considerable Bum of money in cash and in bonds nnd securities. 'Iho ■Minister-went.over the property on Saturday, and examined it with a view to its .suitability- for subdivision, the best means ofdisposingof it, and so on. Jhe bequest ha 3 been given for the purpose of agricultural education, and in- order to pet as big an income as possible iroin it the duty of the Government will bo.. -to obtain the highest rental, it will bring. The board is now discussing the disposition of this land, and will submit a report- to Cabinet. It will then be. -for Cabinet to bring down any necessary le"islation during ■ the coming session to enable the trust to bo fulfilled according to the wishes of the testator. The Minister said that the veterinary section of the Agricultural Department lad been investigating tho tick question for some time. This cattle tick had been in the .herds of Great Britain and other countries for a great many years, and ithad been in New Zealand for about 25 yeara. But tho Departmftnt had arrived at a decision that it wonld be necessary for the future to have somo drastic regulations to control the movements from the areas where tho tick was now to bo found. -These matters have been much discussed by the "Board of Agnculhiro with Dr. Reakes, head of the Agricultural Department.
