PEACE CELEBRATIONS
HARBOUR BOARD'S PLANS.
At last night's' meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board the Wharves and Accounts Committee recommended Hint the board should rescind its resolution of January 23 last to build n peace arch at a coat of .£350 and in lieu thereof r}iould contribute the like sum to the City Council's pence celebration fund. Thj committeo also recommended tho board to proclaim two days' wWf holiday on ,the dates observed by the civic, authorities in connection with the peace celebrations. Mr. 11. W. Welch eaid that the expenditure was an- "absolute waste of money." There were people in , actual need in New Zealand, and the moiio* could l)c spent to much greater adVantage. Mr. A. M'Farlane said he heartily approved of tho proposal to celebrate adequately one of the greatest occasions in history. The recommendations of the committee were adopted.
