KARORI BOROUGH AFFAIRS
MEETING OP THE COUNCIL. Tho Mayor (Mr. B. G. H. Burn) presided over the final. meeting of tho present Karon Borough Council, which was held last evening. There were present Councillors W. Skegg, R- L. Tingey, A. Hamilton, W. G. liradnock, 11. E. Dryden, and E. T. Poll. Tho Milton Borough Council forwarded a circular letter asking for tho support of the lGirori Council for tho following resolution: "That in view of the excessive cost of exporting the surplus produce of the Dominion this council is of opinion that tho New Zealand Government should he urged to adopt measures to secure at the earliest possible date a Government mercantile Beet of steamers in order that producers and.others might not be entirely at the mercy of shipping complies and kindred ijjonopolies." Tho letter was received. .Tho Palmorston North Chamber of Commerce wrote asking for the support of the counciri'nr the following proposals: "That tho tinio has arrived when t'lie Government should control the main arterial roads of theT)ominion with a view to tho formation of pcrmanont highways. That all local bodies be utged to co-oper-ate in the"Work of putting: tho main arterial ron'tfS'in such permanent condition ifi respect to tho pur?ace and width as to carry with safety tho rapidly increasing number of power-driven vehicles." Th" letter was received.
Tho application of the Wellington. .Hookey As?oe.intion for the use of Karon Park for tho season was granted, (he rental being fixed at .£4O.
