ATTACK ON "TIMES"
By Tel«eraph—Press Aseooiation-Oopyrisht (Bee. April 21, 8.30 p.m.) London, April 17. Mr. Lloyd George's speech created a Rood impression iu tlio lobbies, and secured a fairly good Press notice. There was some disappointment at his failure to give definite information regarding the Conference, but it is agreed that the Premier's general account was satisfactory.
The "Daily News's" Parliamentary correspondent says:—"The merciless castigat.ion of Lord Northcliffe was a feature of the 6peech, particularly ihe' paesago in which Mr. Lloyd George referred to 'a great newspaper proprietor labouring under a keen 6ense of disappointment beoause his very ridiculous expectation, that ho was the only _man able to make peace, was not fulfilled." The corresmmdont adds: "The speech indicates that the great twin-brothers, who have used and been used by each other have finally broken their partnership of politics and journalism. Both will gain from the breaking of their inglorious association."
The Northcliffe papers give prominence tn the Premier's onslaught, and profess indifference to. what they term a "gross diatribe." They declare that wild accusations of attempting to sow dissension between the Allies are extravagantlv untrue.. They continuo their fierce criticism of tho Government. WHAT MR. LLOYD GEORGE RAID. (Rec. April 21, 8.20 p.m.) London, April 17. ' Mr.' Lloyd George's attack on the Northcliffe Press referred to an attempt bv certain newspaper owners, suffering from diseased vanity, to sow dissension between the Allies. The Premier also said: "The 'Times' is a threepenny edition of the 'Daily Mail/ On tho Continent there is an idea that it is tho semi-official organ of tho Government. That shows how long an old tradition take,»'to die."
