AUCKLAND MEETING UNCLE NED'S EASTER HANDICAP. OAKS WON BY STAR LADY. (By Telciraph-Specinl Correspondent.* Auckland, April 19. Tho weather this-morning was dull and showerv, but improved towards noon, and the sun shone out while the first race of the A.R.C. Autumn Meeting was run. The going; was quite firm, though the rain had taken some of the sting out of the turf. There was a large attendance of the public. The totalisator.: handled .£07,697, against J;58,K38 ou the corresponding day last year. Mangamahoe aud All Talk were tho popular fancy for the President's Handicap, but several of the other competitors were fairly well supported. M.angamahoe did not get awny very well, and ran almost last until the straight was entered. •All Talk and Lady Energy were then in the front positions. Jlangnmahoo made a quick forward move, and, getting his. head in front fifty yards from home, managed to secure the verdict by a neck, with All Talk'and Lady Energy in close attendance. Singular met wjth a mishap and had to bo led home. The Great Northern Oaks resolved itself into a struggle between the two popular favourites, Star Lady and Afterglow. Star Lady went to the front a mile from home, and was never again headed. Afterglow ran into second posi-, tion after tlio straight was entered, but could not get level with Star Lady, who won with n good deal to spare. There were seven starters in tho Brighton Hurdles. Thrace and Tenacious were tho br.st backed, bpl it was a jrood betting race. With a mile gone the order was Ditto (who was well in front), Waimni, Tenacious, Kurapai, and Thrace, and li-'lf a mile from home Thrace improved his position and got within striking distance of the lender*. Waimai. and Dilfo. When the. last 'hurdle vw negotiated the weight fold its tale on -Thrace. Waimai went to .the front, and Ditto was able to make a "nod enomrh spurt to keep in front of Thra.ce. Kinkora, who was last, and Tenacious ran disappointingly.

AffeotitKm wan made a vorv pronounced favourite in the Groat Northern Champagne Stakes, Hetaua, being also well backed. The favourite caused some delay :><• flip harrier, and did iot set away weli. Motuihi went to the front and kept in the lead till the entrance. to the straight, when he was challenged by Affectation, wlio won comfortably by a length and a half, ITetnna being several lengths in the rear, third. ()i paper the Easter Handicap promised fr, y n o"" nf Hip lip=r races ever witnessed on the Etlerslie course, but, though this •'••nmise "'as "'H fn'fil!«l. the proved a very interesting contest. Desert ißold and Rebekah were the best backed. M.r. Lowry's mare, who drew tenth position, did "not .get away .with her usual dash. When the field settled down. King Lupin went to the front, followed by The Spannor. Desert Gold lying about fifth. Desert Gold soon improved Tier position, and with half a mile pono had run into third nlacc. Her victory was now loudly proclaimed, but the .race was not yet over. The Spanner began to tire, but Pebekah, who always occupied a hpntly placo, was going very strongly, and Desert Gold was unable to make much _immission on her. On enteTJng tie straight j Rebekah was lending and looked like •k [ winner, but TJncle Ned could be seen coming alone with wondwfnl dash, and. cutting down all opposition, he won bv n clear length from Rebekah. with Tho Spanner third and Desert Gold at the head of the next division. Uncle Ned's performance in such company was a most meritorious one. He sot away w<dl, nnd was ridden throughout with great judgment bv Hewitt. . Tho Eden Handicap was won by Demagogue from start to finish. DETAILS OF THE RACING.
