William Thomas Hildreth. - Henry Mainland. Charles John Boyd Norwood. ■ Robert Alexander. Wright. THE MAYORALTY. MR. WESTON STANDS DOWN. In connection with Sir. T. S. Weston's withdrawal from the Mayoral contest, the president of the Greater Wellington Electors' Association (which supported Mr. Weston's intended candidature) has received from that gentleman the followin? letter, which explains itself:— Dear Sir—You will remember that when, at the request of a number of ratepayers, I consented to be nominated as" the candidate Of your association for the Mayoralty, I distinctly stated that I would be no party to any contest which would involve the splitting of the votes of those ratepayers who favour 6table< and responsible administration. At the time 1 understood that Mr. Luke had definitely slated that ha -was not goiug to seek re-election as Mayor, and this, confirmed the impression conveyed to us when I and others voted for him last year as being the .National candidate for Wellington 'North. Mr. Luko has now decided to accede to the wishes of his friends and contest the position. It is unfortunate, perhaps, for ■ some of us youngor men who are anxious to take a part in the public affairs of our country, that threecornered duels are not at the present time in the public interest. I feel, however, to persist in my candidature will bo to display a selfish and not a kudablo ambition. Will you, therefore, and the members of your association, permit) me 1.0 withdraw from the contest, and at tho same time to express to you all how much I have appreciated, and still do appreciate, the confidence you have reposed in inc.—Yours faithfully (signed) T. Shailor Weston. The Greater Wellington Association desires to record its keon appreciation of the public-spirited action of Mr. Weston, who. without any pressure from the association, has decided "to subordinate his personal ambitions to Iho public weal." The association regrots exceedingly thatesuch action has beon deemed necessary, as it is convinced that -Mr. Weston would have filled the office with credit to himself and to the distinct bonefit of the city, aiid it looks forward to a future occasion when this will doubtless eventuate. The association trusts that the example set by Mr. Weston will bo followed by one of those still iu the field, and thus avoid tho possibility of splitting the votes, as otherwise a serious responsibility will rest upon those concerned. Mr. J. P. Luke will address a meeting in tho Concert Chamber to-morrow evenning. Friends and supporters of Mr. J. P. Luke will meet on Thursday next at 8 p.m. in tho Masonic Hall, Boulcott Street. Mr. A. A. George, a candidate for the Harbour Board, has an announceinont to the electors in to-day's issue. Mv. W. J. Thompson (a member of the City Council and Hospital Board) announces that he is seeking re-election. In. Saturday's issuo the name of Mr W. H. Boycs was mentioned as ono of those selected by tho Lower Hutt branch of the Labour Party to contest tho borough council elections. It is now

announced that Mr. Boyes lias retired from" the contest, and Mr. W. C. Phypers has been selected in his place. EASTBOURNE DOROUGH. The Mayor of Eastbourne (Mr. p. Levi), who is seeking re-election, has been nominated by Messrs. A. Wulker, V. B. Willis, W. Nash, and C. Marquis. The following councillors have signified their intention of offering themselves for re-election, viz.:—Messrs. Bennett, Mayer, M'Pherson, Marquis, and Cook.
