.MORE RECLAMATION WORIv' PROPOSED. At Thursday's meeting of the City Council it was resolved:— "That negotiations be entered into with the Wellington Harbour Board for. the Corporation to acquire- the right .to reclaim tlm area in Evans Bay between Shag Point: aim the north-eastern point of the Kilbirnio Recreation Ground, with Iho view of the extension of the reclamatipn for city- recreation purposes, and also that the officers be instructed to formulate details of tho council's proposals to submit, to the board."

In'-speaking lo tile motion, tho Mayor said that it was the Wellington Harbour Board in which the power was statutorily vested to reclaim the stretch of foreshore between the Kilbirnio reclamation and the Miramar 'cutting.- What the council desired to do was to come to some arrangement with the board whereby the council would he enabled to reclaim that portion of the foreshore between tho Recreation 1 Ground' .and Shag Point—about halfway the head of the bay—jn order to preserve the foreshore for recreative purposes for all time. The idea had come from the Reserves Committee, who wished to see the Recreation Ground extended. Councillor Frost said there was a growing need for further grou.nds, and .by gaining the consent of the board to go ahead with the work so well begun they wore looking to the -well-being of Wellington in the future. The Mayor and councillors, were of opinion that special legislation would be necessary before the board could delegate its power to reclaim to the City Council. Councillor L. M'Keuzie suggested that an iiiodorstandiug.should be arrived at as early as possible in order that tho necessary legislation could be passed at I lie first opportunity.
