RAILWAYMEN'S CONDITIONS
Sir—A lot Ims been hoard about this matter recently, but allow me to give one instance to show why the men are so suspicious concerning the proposed new conditions. It is assorted that, tho men receive double pay . for certain holidays, to wit, Christmas Day. The position is as follows:— . 1. A man who does not work on Christmas Day would receive payment for, sayi HO;) days and 9 days' holiday, and at Ids. per day would receive Jilol 10s., but , works only 299 days. _ '2. A man who works' Christmas Day would receive payment for 300 days and 10 days' holiday, and at 10s. per day,, would receive.-C155, but work 300 days. Therefore, you see tho man working on Christmas Day receives 10s. more limn the nuui who does not, but works e one day .for the 10s., so how can he receive doiiblo pay? Ho merely receives ordinary pay that day, with this pitvantage, that instead of receiving Christmas Day holiday' in mid-summer lie m all probability receives his Christmas Day in mid-winter.—l am, etc., ■ SQUARE DEAL.
