GOLFER 9 DEATH OF TOM BALL. The death was recently announced in England of 'L'oni Bull, the English international golfer and professional to the Kaynes Park Club. He had only just been demobilised from the lioyal Artillery and had.not completed his 28 (lays' furlough. He went to the Baynes Park course last Monday week, when he was perfectly well, except for a slight cold. Influenza, however, followed, anil afterwards pneumonia, from which he died in his home. Tom Ball, who was born at Hoylake in 1882, waa at Disley, where ho made a green "record" of 68, and at the West Lancashire Club, where he reduced the record to 07. before »oinr; south. He tied for the ltth place in the Open Championship at Muirfield in 1906, was seventh aa Hoylake in 1907, and second to James Braid at. Presrwick in 1908. In 1909. at Ileal, he broke the green "record" ivitli a round of 71, and in the championship tied , with Braid for second place to J. H. Taylor. Up, to then he had entered from M'est Lancashire. Tn 1910 he was attached to Bra;n«hr>tr, and in 1911 to Rayues Part, where ho lowered the. course' "record" to G9. .' ( f ter 19ffl He was not in the firft few of 1 ,, " Onen Championship; but he represented E""laml in the international matches of 19IW--10-12-11!, and played for the professionals against the amateurs in the Ornnntiin match of 1911. He 'broke the Mitirfield "record" with n jr.od score, of Gfi. In 19P9 he won the "News of the. World" Tournament, beatinp Alec Herd in f'e fi"nl round by seven holer, up nml five to play, and secured the Op?n flliampionship of Belgium in 1913 ,W 1914.
