VICTORIA COLLEGE COUNCIL
The Council of.'Victoria College met last night. There were present Sir Robert Stout, Professors T. A. Hunter and J. Sonnnerville, Itev. W/ A. Evans, Messrs. P. Leri, E. M'Callum, M.P., and li , . H. Baketfell; Sir Robert Stout was voted to the chair. Tha Director, of Education wrote with reference to the proposal to transfer tho Westland and Grey districts from the Victoria. College area to the Canterbury College urea. He pointed out some technical difficulties in the way of the transfer. ■ • . . The matter was referred to tho Einance Committee. The Repatriation. Deportment wrote suggesting that the college should remit the fees of returned soldiers whose means warranted them applying for such as-, sistance. Canterbury College and Auckland College' had agreed to remit feas. Sir Robert Stout said he did not think the soldiers' means should be taken into consideration. Professor Hunter mentioned that the number of returned soldiers was very large, and the college accommodation was already strained. Every possible consideration should be given to the soldiers, but the council could not act without an estimate of numbers. , The Finance Committee was instructed to report on the matter. Some general discussion took place regarding accommodation at the college. Members stated , that extension of the class rooms and laboratories were required, and the council decided to press the matter on the attention of the Government. ''
