Hogg,-ti. London W. H. Field, M.P., K. A. M.P., C. Harkness, 1!. P. Rislwortb, K. H. .Penny, J. l'.rShund, and J. J. Clark. ■ The statement of accounts up to April 12 showed receipts since Inst meeting amounting to .a:21,557 9?. Others items set forth were:—Teachers salaries, X'11,5.V2 12s. 9d.; house.allowances, X'3o* Us. Bd.; Training' College students -nl-' lowances, MOiS 155,. Sd.; : ■general--pay-ments for month, los. Cd.; total amount of payment authorised, =£20,90* 155.,7 d.; oash in bank on current account April 12 (after deducting unpresented. cheques, JCIS9 IS?. W, i! 5923 Bs. 2d.f amount on deposit, ,£11,000; grants due, =£10,532 55.. sd. ■ • , The Department advised that a limit* 0 grant would be made in approved eases for improvements to toachcrs' and it asked the hoard to prepare a statement of its requirements in.the matter- , Mr. Wright said that apparently ■«.;» Department was coining right out of. ly 3 shell, and was facing the problem-doing:, in fact/the' very thing that had been asking it for. years to do. '■, The chairman said that the proposal nppeared to- be that additional comfort should bo given to country school teachers. ' If. additional comforts and conveniences could be provided in the country, the right class of teacher would bo more -easily, obtained. - The board decided to thank (he iJepnrtment for its offer, and to prepare the statement asked for. The secretary reported that the Koyal Colonial Institute (London) was ofteriuß prizes for-essny competitions by young peoplo throughout the Empire. There wiild bo n senior and a junior competition, the senior subject being ' Sea Power as the Bnsis of the Kinpirc' and the junior "The Life oild Work of Clive as' ah Enipire-Builder." Bronze medals and suitably-inscribed books were the prizes offered. Tho board agreed, on the rcconimen(la : tioii of tho Execiitivo Coinmittee, to saiiction tho refund of expenses to pupil-, teachers and probatioiiprs who have to be absent from lidmo overnight in order to attend Saturday classes. . ,
