. The fortnightly, meeting'of the Society for the .Prevention of Cruelty to. Animals, took place : hist'evening, the president, Sir. F. Meadowc-rott occupying, Vue chair.. Suggestions'! to .improve tins' '.working, of the Cruelty to Animals Act were laid before the committee, and were ordered to be forwarded to the Canterbury Society, in view of ,n conference of the Dominion sueielies propped to be held iu tho near future.'' The society acknowledged'the. sum of ,£4O received from tho trustees of,tho T. G. Mncarthy Trust. Among the cases reported by tiie inspector were two cases' of lameness, two without proper, shelter, two ill-used, one •with sores, and one destroyed. Subscriptions received amounted to £8 lis., including 41 Is. each, E, K. Kirkcaldie, Gear Meat Co., ■0. E, Galway; 55., "Sport," Levin.
