SEAMEN ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE. Mr. P. • V. Frazer, S.M., presided over yesterday's sitting of the, Magistrate's Court. ... A 6enteuce of seven days imprisonment was imposed on John Jolinson, Thomas M'Arthur, Andrew Ferguson, and Ralph Booth, who admitted being absent without leave from their vessel the liner Toromeo. His Worship also ordered the defendants to forfeit two days' pay and directed that they be placcd on board the vessel should Bhe bo ready to sail prior to tho expiry of the sentence.

INSOBRIETY. Seven first offenders for drunkenness were convicted and fined 10s. each. Ono other first, offender similarly charged was convicted and disoh&rged. William Donnelly waa fined .S3, and John Wynu, who had' two previous convictions, was fined 10s., and made the subject of a prohibition order. Michael Martin, who admitted a breach of hia prohibition order, was fined A in default seven days imprisonment. On a charge of drunken* ness Martin waa convicted and discharged.

Bd., was sentenced to two months' imprisonment in'the Dunedin Gaol, warrant to be suspended so long as 12s. 6d. per week is paid. _ The operalion of the warrant is held in abeyance till April 23 in order to Rive defendant (in opportunity to niako payments. under tlie original order. , " The application of Victoria Johns for separation, maintenance, and guardianship orders against her husband, Giles F Silvester Johns, was refused, the Magistrate being satisfied that the husband had fulfilled his obligations.
