ROWING AT PETONE

INTER-CLUB REGATTA

Considerable interest was shown in the inter-club regatta held at Pctone on Saturday, when several interesting races were decided. The weather was line and the sea in ideal condition for rowing, and quite a large numbsr of spectators lined the beach and esplanade to watch the events. As- Ihis is tli« first rowing regatta held since tho kenning of the war it is something in the nature of a revival of the sport. Tho races were all for four-oared boats, and the race distance was half a mile.

The first race, the Maiden Fours, was won by Star, with Petone second. The crews were as follow-.-- Wellington: Barry (str.), Hayes (31, Lneoy (2), Hoare (bow), and Bognuda (cos); Petone: W. Burk (str.), Miles (3), Wright (bow), and Horton (cox); Star: Wakelin (str.), Oborn (3), Brown (2), Kobb (bow), and Anderson (cox). Petone led till within 150 yards of the finish, when Star quickened their stroke and won by half a length. In tho Youths' Fours, victory fell to the Petone team, which had something of an easv win. Three crews competed: —Star; Diehl (str.), Herd (3), Moss (2), Gasquoine (bow), and Anderson (cox); Petone: Love (str.), Harding (3), E. Ambler (2), Christie (bow), and Pollock (cox); Wellington: Rice (str.), Bognuda (3), Morris (2), Goddard (bow), and Bognuda (cox). Petone won by four lengths. Four crews entered for the Senior Fours. This race excited a great deal of interest, and was very keenly contested, the result being a win for Potone A from Petone B 3>v a length. The crews were: -Petone A*: Tromain (str.), Sharon (3). C. Drummoud (2), Burridge (bow), and Horton (cox); Petone B: Hume (str.). Weatherly (3), White (2), L. Drummond (bow), and Pollock (cox); Star: Cowlcs (str.), Cnato (3), Mitchell (2), Pollock (bow), and Anderson (cox); Wellington: M'Kinley (str.), Hayes 1.3), Shilling (2), Lacey (bow), and Bognuda (cox). Tn the married men's race, Petone v. Star, the former team won by two lengths. Pel one was represented by Sharon (str.), Weatherly (3), -C. Drummond (2).' White (bow), and Pollock (<■<*). While Star's representatives were M'Kinley (str.), Hayes (3), Barry (2), Lacey (bow), and Bognuda (cox). The final race of tho day was a contest between Petone's married and single men. and resulted in a win for the former team bv four lengths. Crews:— Married men: Sharon (str.), Weatherly (3), C.
