According to the statement of a young Serbian who had been recruited by force, the Bulgarians deported 5000 Greeks of Eastern .Maceilon::', while 4000 Serbs succumbed to hunger and lorture. Women and children were forced to work under t'rrible cruelties and violations, and Greek girls who refused to yield to officers' desires were flogged 'to death.
