Bon Spec finished up in lmin. 15 2-s'sec, a very smart gallop, ns he had a good weight in tho saddle. He is exceptionally well.
F. H. Gray has arrived at Riccarton with two horses owned by Mr. J. Grigg, of Longbeach. Eight Bells, who will be race<l at the Easter Meeting, is a four-year-old mare by Vice Admiral—Midnight. The other is a three-year-old filly by Gay Spark—Tinwald Beauty, b.ut she is not ready to race yet. Accommodation lias been secured at Riccarton for ths Otago owned gelding, Kilbrogan, who will be ridden in the Great Easter Handicap by G. Young. Mr. J. B. Reid has booked a passage by the Athenic, which is leaving for England on April 23. The Southland trainer, P. T. Hogau, has arrived at Riccarton with Rorke's Drift, Eleu6, and Calma, who claim engagements at the C.J.C. Meeting. Acceptances for tho Auckland Meeting close on Friday next. As a result of some good track work at Riccarton Bon Spec has come into favour for Ihe Great Easter Handicap. He now ranks an equal second favourite with Punka, while the pride of position is easily held by Sasaonf. The Winter Cup- winner, Bedford, is now one of the fancied division for the big event at the A.R.C. Easter Meeting. The Bunyan gelding is nicely-placed in the middle' of the handicap with 7st. 71b, and if the going is at all soft on Saturday week he should be able to give a good account of himself. .J. M'Laughlin will leave for Auckland to-day with Rebekah, who is to contest the A.R.C. Easter Handicap, iu which she has the minimum impost, and will be ridden by R. S. Bagby. W. J. Porter, with Imaribbon and Pariform, will al6o go north to-day. J. W. Lowe left Trentham yesterday with Mascot, who, with Motuihi, will represent the Messrs. Riddiford at the coming Auckland Meeting. Mascot will race in the Easter Handicap and the St. George's Handicap on the second day, and Motuihi will race in the two-year-old handicaps, Before leaving for Auckland J. W. Lowe had the jumpers in his stables schooled, and on Saturday Seadown, Coalition, and a hack by Chief Commauder, all gave pleasing exhibitions. Depredation was very sore after racing at the Woodville Meeting, aud he is now being spelled. Since he was successful in the Auckland Cup two years ago the Campfire gelding has failed to win a race. The two-year-old Warplane is to. accompany Nystad to Riccarton and ho will oppose Surveyor and Miss Mimic iu the Champagne and Challenge Stakes. With.the racing and travelling ho has done. Gloaming can be said to have had a very hard season, but in his preparation for the C.J.C. Challenge Stakes, It. J. Mason finds it necessary to do a lot of galloping with the gelded son of The Welkin, and regularly he puts up the best times in his essays, which are generally over a five furlong course. B. Deelev is going south to ride him, bo another rider will have to be found for Afterglow, who is being sent to Ellerslie for the Great Northern Oaks. An Auckland Press Association message states that Bonny Briar has been scratched for the Easter Handicap at the Auckland Racing Club's Meeting.
