LIQUOR IN NO-LICENSE DISTRICT
LICENSEE'S APPEALS DISMISSED'.
\iy Teleeraph.—Press Association. Masterton, April 8. At the Masterton Court yesterday, tho Registrar read tho decision of Mr. Justico Chapman in the appeal made by Alexander Birss, licensee of the Taratahi Hotel, against the decision of Mr. S. L. P. Free, S.M. The circumstances of tho case will be remembered, a party of sotdiors having purchased two dozen bottles of beer, which was put in two cases and brought to' Masterton and consumed. Tin Judge held that tho argument that each soldier purchased three bottles was entirely negatived by tho statement Ot facts. There was only ono purchase ot two dozen bottles. A further portion of the judgment supported the obiter dictum by Sir Robert Stout that it was necessary to give a written order for any quantity of liquor intended to bo taken into a no-licen.se district. The appeals were dismissed with .E5 ss. costs in each case. |
