CLEANING UP NEEDED
Sir,—Now that we are threatened with a recurrence of the epidemic, yclept influenza, may I be allowed to point out that it is not only the occupants of houses who should be compelled to clear up their back yards, hut the council should aleo see to it that the streets are kept in a clean and eanitary condition.' In spite of all the dreadful experience of a few short months ago, the fact remains that some of our streets are in a disgraceful state. To prove this one has only to walk up from' Adelaide Road towards Drummond Street, where it junctions with Hanson Street, and note the collection of filth and rubbish to be seen there day after day. Occasionally a cart comes along, and some of the debris is taken away; but nothing is regularly done, and the corner is not only a menace, but a disgrace, to Wellington. Talk about serins and microbes! They must be there by the million. Hoping I have not taken up too much of your valuable space, and that something wil] be dono to abate the nuisance complained of.— I am, etc., EFFICIENCY.
